Discover a new way of management and accountability

Governments, companies and civil society organizations all try to govern. Whether it concerns society, markets, consumer behavior, quality assurance, affordability of care, social domain, political decision-making or influencing public opinion. Almost without exception, laws, rules, procedures, figures, models, certifications, campaigns and other methods are used for this that are supposed to achieve or achieve predetermined goals.

However, this is becoming less and less successful. Laws do not have the intended effect, models are far off the mark, campaigns explode on social media, budgets get out of hand and quality erodes as requirements become stricter and the number of rules increases. The standard response – more administration, more analysis, more data, more supervision and more rules – only makes it worse. Obviously, a radically different control theory is needed

Steering is no longer successful in our complex society and economy
We nee a radically different policy and control theory

The purpose of a system is what it does
Not what it says it does, not what it is expected to do

Governance on meaning with the knowledge of society

The reason that objectives are no longer successful is clear. Residents, employees and clients collectively have more knowledge, experience, diversity and talent than policy makers, researchers, designers and managers. The knowledge for the future is in society, not in institutions, policy departments or boards. Our society therefore reacts complexly (read out of control) and is largely self-organizing. It is no longer possible to steer, but it is still necessary to steer.

StoryConnect offers narrative evaluation and justification for this. Our applications are based on what residents, employees, consumers and patients want to tell rather than what you want to know about them. That is a radical break. Our systems and services help you discover the meaning of your products, services or innovations. This allows you to formulate policy from the assignment, manage by meaning and justify from the intention.

It is no longer about what you want to know from people
It is about what people want you to know

Narrative Solution Architect, StoryConnect

Narrative solutions for youth, care, society and commerce

StoryConnect provides narrative tailor-made solutions to governments, companies and social organizations. Our specialists have unique knowledge of complexity, narratology, transformation and systems science. Our knowledge and experience is bundled in our StoryCycle approach for developing and supporting applications.

It is first about unlocking what happens in the practices surrounding residents, families, schools, all kinds of care organizations and, of course, companies, chains and networks. We help the insights that emerge from this – further with the help of the SenseCanvas – to develop into all kinds of adjustments and interventions.

The StoryAcademy™ provides keynotes, seminars and training on narrative solutions at every level of expertise and for every audience. From scientific conferences to festivals.

Youth and education

Evaluating youth care and (appropriate) education is essential to gain insight into its significance for children, young people, parents, teachers and care providers. What really happens in families, schools, institutions? And do treatments help? Our applications in youth and education provide answers to these questions and many other questions. This is a good basis for evaluating and shaping policy.

Youthcare

Budgets for youth care are skyrocketing because there is no information that municipalities can use to control the impact on the lives of children, young people and families. Narrative evaluation shows what happens in the practices, in institutions, behind the front door.

Inclusieve education

For the (Dutch) Ministry of Education, Culture and Science we developed a regional approach to increase the case-solving skills of professionals in education. Parents, children, young people, teachers / teachers, compulsory education officials and local administrators are involved in continuously making sense of the appropriateness and inappropriateness of education. Identified solutions are used smartly, barriers are broken down together.

Social domain

More and more municipalities and regional partnerships are discovering that transformation of the social domain cannot be planned. The transitions (WMO, Youth care and Participation) turned out to be child’s play compared to the transformations that (should) follow.

The way in which municipalities and social services serve the social domain differs greatly. From own organizations to neighborhood teams and from open house constructions to general outsourcing. Everywhere, however, there is a need to have insight into the actual meaning of help and care.

Fortunately, there is a solution. Our applications for neighborhood / resident-oriented work give teams, organizations and municipalities an insight into the significance of public services for residents and aid / care providers. That appears to be essential for initiating and maintaining the desired transformation.

Community work

Many teams, neighborhood teams or municipal teams, struggle to make the turn from production to prevention. Finding a new balance between own strength / direction, legality and optimizing the use of public funds is also only moderately successful without a clear view of which aid and support is doing well and which is not. The neighborhood-oriented application helps to manage the balance between assignment and intention.

Inclusive society

The social domain is broad and international. We developed the narrative monitor for the UN Convention for People with Disabilities, mapped the barriers to education / work / food in Africa and Asia, evaluated the implementation of Duch law on participation and enabled people with a low SES were involved in policy evaluation.

Care

There are major movements when it comes to thinking about the quality of / in healthcare. The healthcare sector is looking for new ways to make the meaning of healthcare visible. Measurement, certification and registration have largely ceased to be quality instruments.

From nursing home care, through community care and child care, a movement has been initiated that places moral and ethical aspects of care in addition to certification and professionalism. The same movement is taking place in mental health care and even in the Cure (hospitals) this realization is penetrating. This was helped by the active attitude of the Health and Society Council.

Our applications for Long-term care and Patient orientation help care organizations to translate their social tasks, unlock their care practices, evaluate them and adapt them to changing circumstances and contextual differences.

A special feature of the business line is that narrative accounting with the 4VITEA framework is an optional part of our applications. With this, internal and external stakeholders first determine the real meanings of care for people. They evaluate whether care is good. Subsequently, without normative checklists, (narrative)accountability if fulfilled

Long-term care

Long-term care is a special form of care because the people who receive care do not get better. Long-term care is therefore more about living, living and living than medical care. StoryConnect developed two applications for dementia care and medical nursing home care.

Patient orientation of care

Measurement, certification and registration have largely crumbled as quality instruments in healthcare. It is true that disruption and disinfection is not going so fast, but the realization that, in addition to counting, storytelling is also necessary, is becoming increasingly widespread. Our narrative application for integral patient focus / employee support shows healthcare practices through the eyes of all involved and ensures continuous adjustments to internal and external changes. Naturally, narrative accounting – internal and external – is also an option here.

Commercial, sustainability and innovation

Narrative evaluation and justification also has added value compared to traditional market / user research, stakeholder analysis, life cycle analysis and for product development. For example, we developed narrative applications for trade fairs, agile innovation for the product industry and we mapped out the barriers to innovation in the food chain. Get in touch for more information.

Agile product introduction and development

The traditional development process from prototype via focus group to market introduction results in more than 80% failed innovations. Even if the “fail fast, fail often” principle is used. Agile product development combines narrative evaluation of user patterns and customer adoption with iterative further development of products. As a result, customers withdraw the product into the market during development, as it were.
